Giving smiles

It has been some time since I was last tangling.  There has been a lot of changes and things that have happened that took time away from me being able to tangle.  Let me tell you I have missed it.  I finally decided that I just needed to make the time to tangle.  Christmastime seemed like a good time to do this for several reasons; one it allowed me to make things for others and two it gave me time to relax and do something that makes me feel less frantic during the crazy holiday season.

So the current diva challenge (#248) is to give the gift of Zentangle. I had actually already started this for the holiday season but decided to go a little further and give to more than just my mom (I had made an ornament specifically for her before the challenge was given). So I made ornaments for each of our nieces and nephews and for my two best friends. It was pretty cool to see the reactions.
Not the best lighting so here are a few close ups of the circles.
Ixorus, Ibex, Buttercup, Tadpoles, Twizted

Linq, Printemps, Miander, Juke, Helix

Luv-a, River, Cayla, Shattuck, N-meshed

Fairy Invitations

This challenge was to create a place of fairies. This was a very fun challenge actually. There are so many tangles out there that look like they belong in the world of fairies. As I was finishing it I wanted something for the sky and I thought what better than mist as fairies are in the land of enchantment and for some reason I think of mist when I think of this land. Hope you enjoy.
Tangles used: Cyme, Birds On A Wire, Cat-kin, Brax, Ibex, Mist

Initialize

So this challenge sounded simple at first but it proved actually a bit more difficult than first thought. The challenge was to use my initials as the string but to have them one in front of the other. I found that J and N don't actually look all that great one over the other, instead they become a rather boring line. So then I decided to turn the tile 90 degrees and voila, something appealing. So here it is.
Tangles used: LaBel, Dribbetz, Squill, Scrawls, Fengle, Ennies, Ixorus, and Printemps

String for a string

This challenge was to take a string and let it drop onto the tile at random and use that as the string to draw the tangle with.
Tangled used: daggerly, knot rickz, bunzo, ditto, tleaf, amphora, steps

Tripping around

Diva challenge 28 had us using Tripoli, a tangle that was new when Laura released the challenge. So here it is, in various forms, with a background of hollibaugh.

New tangle

My husband and I were laying in bed the other night when he curled up behind me and put his arm around me and said, "huggle." When I asked him what that was he said, "you know like a hug and a snuggle all tangled up together." And of course cause I had just finished doing some Zentangle, my mind started making a picture of a new tangle with people "huggling." And so here we are with the results...

Duotangle

This challenge was to use only 2 tangles, dex and verdigogh. I also decided to try out my new Sakura soufflé pens. I should have read the entire package first and then I would have known that these pens don't really work on pourous materials. Oh well it still looks cool at least from a distance, lol.

A little help from a friend...

The challenge was to get someone else to draw the string and I was finally able to get someone, Andrew!  He drew an "a" string so I decided to go with the theme and only do tangles with "a" names.
Tangles used: aa's, alaura, ahh, arc flower, angelfish, arukas, ansu

No name

I have no name for this one. I was going through learning some new tangles and I remembered I had this tile ore string from a while ago. So sidetracked from my "lessons" I was... Here are the results of my distraction.
Tangles used: fescu, flux, cyme, double d's, starawn

Now it just needs a name...

Spiral out

Diva challenge 26. Use a spiral string. Sounds easy right? Wrong. I don't normally spend a whole lot of time planning my tangles but every time I went to start, the tangles I thought of just didn't seem to work in my brain. So I sat here with the square in front of me with nothing more than a spiral string on it for what seemed like hours. Finally I decided on a tanglation of flovine for the spiral. The came everything else and again I sat. I wanted to do multiple tangles that kind of melded into one another but when I picked up my pen, it didn't feel right. Not sure why but I started drawing hollibaugh and I decided to go with it for the entire background. There is something about the linear simplicity of hollibaugh behind the curvy and delicate flowerlike quality of flovine. I am actually quite happy with my results.

Tangled used: printemps, crescent moon, Fengle

Stripes

Another string challenge. I wanted to use my gel pens again so here I am.
Tangles used: flux, Cruze, trumpits, role, linq

String theory

I had to skip the 22nd challenge because I don't have anyone else in the house and I keep forgetting to get the help in school so I moved on to the next. This challenge was to use the same strong as everyone else. So because everyone was to use the same string I thought it would be appropriate to use original Zentangle tangles.
Tangled used: 'Nzeppel, sprinkle, pendrills, ibex, xircus, locar, pokeleaf

Royal inspiration

The challenge was to be inspired by the royal wedding (the original challenge was from 2011 when William and Catherine were married in West Minster Abbey). I framed it with one of my new favorite tangles aura-Leah cause it reminded me of all the foliage around the church. I used rose because of all the scroll work throughout the abbey. I found it interesting that there was a shamrock on william's collar and I thought it should be included in this. There were feathers on many of the hats that the ladies wore as well.  I wasn't sure what to do for the last part and then I was reading Laura's post about what all she saw as inspiration and she mentioned pokeroot on the lapel of Catherine's brother and thought that might complete the tangle nicely.

Light in the darkness

The challenge to be inspired by the technique of light over dark. I used an initial string using Andrews initials because he has been the light in the crazy darkness I have going through lately. Talking to him at the end of my days is my bright spot till I can get back to all my friends and family. So here is my "Light in the Darkness."
Tangles used: fleuri, chakra, cootie, flux

Timely

Diva challenge 17 to do a full tangle start to finish in 15 minutes. I was not able to complete mine in 15 minutes. Mine took about 20.

This was how far I got in 15 minutes:

Eggstravagance

I continue tangling this evening. Using an egg as the inspiration was this challenge.

Mooka

Diva challenge 16 to use the tangle mooka. I decided to do a Monotangle.  As I was drawing the mookas I felt like I was being drawn into an aurora so I named this "Auroral Dance"

It's been a few days...

I haven't had a lot of extra time lately to tangle but I started one during inservice today. We were talking about setting goals and goes into a goal. This was the list that the teachers came up with and I just put it into a word tangle.
Tangles used: Yewdee, Buttercup, Hurakan, Betweed, Aura-Leah, Fengle, Luv-A, Coroline, ix, Revel, Shattuck, Cat-Kin, Afterglo, Trimond.

All about the curves

After the previous challenge this felt much more relaxing. I have always been told that curves are the natural drawing structure of the brain and this kind of made me feel like it myself.
Tangles used: paisley, paushalov, mumsy, cruffle, furr balls

Straight to the point

Diva challenge 14 to use only straight lines, no curves. As a result tanglations ensue 😊
Tangles used: tortuca, diva dance rock & roll, poke leaf, up and across

Nondominatrix

The challenge for 13 to do an entire tangle with my Non-dominate hand.  It is actually much more difficult to do than I thought.

Inspiration blue

Diva challenge #12 blue is the inspiration.  I'm calling it "Rainy Day."
Tangles used: aura-Leah, nebel, flux, fishnet, pop cloud, co2

Only use one tangle for the entire tile. That was challenge 11. So here it is. I only used bunzo in this tangle.

Long day of work

It was a day to say the least. This was how I managed to not run screaming from the school. This was diva challenge 6 to use ixorus.
Tangles used: ixorus, double d's, ansu, Ozzie, well

Orbs in the night sky

Diva challenge 5 the inspiration is orbs. The first thing that came to my mind was the moon, so that's the focal of the tangle. The rest were tangles that seemed to just flow with it.
Tangled used: betweed, aura-Leah, bunzo, diva dance rock n roll, ibex

Wishing on a star

The forth diva challenge complete.  Starry is the inspiration. I thought about "wishing on a star." As I started the drawing something told me to draw a butterfly. I guess I was thinking of dad tonight.

Tangles used: starfish, agua, printemps, aura-Leah, cyme, aa's, angelfish, zenplosion folds
